Sculpture is found everywhere...

All around you are objects. These objects can have a potential to be something wonderful. That pencil that you are holding can be so much more than that. The old book under your bed can be a masterpiece. What ever you want can happen in this mass of opportunities.

During this project all of you will get a chance to collect objects and manufacture a sculpture. This artwork will help us grasp a basic understanding of what visual culture is and how it can affect our daily lives. Visual culture is everything around us in a way. It mainly includes cultural studies, visual images, and topics that change an define our way of thinking. Ideals join in here, meaning something that you regard as perfect in our society. This being said, technology is becoming increasingly important in our society, which is why we are including it by filming our process.

We will also look into what our beliefs are. Having a belief means that you trust and have faith in something or someone. Judy Chicago had her beliefs when she made 'The Dinner Party'. She wanted to show how powerful so many women have been to the world. Each woman received a plate setting complete with a doily with their name embroidered on it. The plate setting is designed specifically to honor that individual woman. They all come together in a triangle.

I am sure you each have a powerful belief similar to this. Whether it is equal rights, racism, faith, hope, reassurance, inner beauty, anything! You could even choose one of these if it sticks with you. A belief can have a symbolic meaning or can be upfront and obvious. Just do what you feel comfortable with.
